Lucasfilm’s New Star Wars Movie is Reportedly a Lando Spin-Off

Star Wars fans were met with major news last weekend. Word came out that Sleight director J.D. Dillard and Luke Cage writer Matt Owens had been tapped to develop a Star Wars project for Disney and Lucasfilm – the most recent directorial announcement to come out of the Star Wars news cycle ever since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker's release.

While it is still unclear whether the filmmakers are developing a movie for the big screen or whether they're going to work on a brand new series, a new report by Lords of the Long Box suggests that the project could very well be a Lando Calrissian spin-off movie.

According to the entertainment news channel, this new project by Dillard and Owens may turn out to be a Star Wars spinoff movie that could be officially announced after Disney launches Disney+ in Europe on March 11. Director, musician, and actor Donald Glover is expected to appear in the upcoming project, reprising his role as the younger version of Billy Dee Williams Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

As exciting as the idea of a Lando Calrissian movie might sound, we can't help but cast a little bit of doubt on the report. It doesn't seem likely for Lucasfilm to greenlight another Star Wars spinoff after the poor box office reception of Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Perhaps Lucasfilm is planning a Lando Calrissian live-action series for Disney+.

We have to wait and see what Lucasfilm has planned for the project. The new Star Wars project has yet to receive a release date. We'll update fans as soon as we get word.
