There's a bunch of Star Wars projects currently in development right now, and I'm not just talking about the films like The Last Jedi, Episode IX, the Han Solo film, and animated show like Star Wars Rebels, but there's also a plethora of comics, books, and video games that will be released in the near future. Most of these projects are still shrouded in mystery, but we may have just learned the title of an upcoming Star Wars release. Thanks to sources from The Star Wars Post, we now know that Lucasfilm has trademarked Star Wars: Rivals. It's likely a title of an upcoming mobile game.
There have been many Star Wars mobile games released since Lucasfilm was sold to Disney, and it looks like Star Wars: Rivals is the title of a new mobile game. Comicbook points out how identical the listing is to the previously released mobile game Star Wars: Force Arena.
If it's not a mobile game, there are several other possibilities such as a video game being developed by the studio Visceral, which is being led by Amy Henning (Uncharted). That game has been in production for several years but it probably won't be released until next year at the earliest. A third person game is also being developed by the studio Respawn, but if the new trademark is connected to one of these games, it's most likely the Visceral game.
It's also possible that Star Wars: Rivals is the title of a new animated series. It's already been confirmed that Jeniffer Muro is involved in a new Star Wars animated series, but the language used on the trademarks doesn't match with the type of language typically used in trademarks connected to animation. As Star Wars Post explains, "Trademarks for the animation series tend to have specific verbiage in the records that state film production and distribution".
The new trademark could pretty much be anything since Star Wars: Rivals is such a generic title.
