Lucasfilm’s Begun Work On Rian Johnson’s Upcoming Star Wars Trilogy

Star Wars fans might have to wait a year for Star Wars: Episode IX to make its way to the big screen, but it looks like Lucasfilm's gone ahead and started work on Rian Johnson's new Star Wars trilogy.

Sitting down for an interview with Empire Magazine after the Rakuten TV Empire Awards this weekend, Johnson's producer partner Ram Bergman decided to talk about the status of The Last Jedi director's new set of Star Wars films.

"We've started. Slowly, slowly, but we've started. Hopefully, soon we're going to get busier."

There hasn't been that much information about Johnson's new Star Wars trilogy, though the filmmaker did previously say that the new batch of Star Wars films would take place in a previously unexplored area of Lucasfilm's galaxy far, far away and would have no connection to the current trilogy.

This gives the franchise a brand new slate, taking the Star Wars universe further away from the Skywalker Legacy and from the events of the original trilogy.

While the possibility of a clean break may sound exciting to some, we also expect others in the franchise to be strongly against a trilogy that cuts away from everything that they've known and loved, even though the films will remain in the Star Wars universe. Star Wars fans aren't that fond of change after all.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is currently available on Digital HD and will be made available on Blu-Ray and DVD on March 27.
