Lucasfilm Reportedly Eyeing Emily Blunt As Mara Jade In New Star Wars Movie

Lucasfilm might be planning to veer away from the Skywalker saga after the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker this December, however, it seems like fans continue to hope that a few of their favorite Star Wars legends characters might appear on the big screen some day.

This includes a character strongly tied to Luke Skywalker. According to a report by We Got This Covered, sources say that Lucasfilm is now looking at the Expanded Universe for ideas and it seems like the studio is eager to bring Mara Jade to the big screen in a future Star Wars movie.

The report also claims that the studio is eyeing Emily Blunt (or an actress close to Blunt) for the role.

For those who aren't familiar with the character, Mara Jade is mostly known in Star Wars Legends as Luke Skywalker's Force-using wife. Jade was once a puppet of the Emperor and was introduced into Legends as the Sith Lord's right-hand woman. However, Luke manages to free Jade of Palpatine's brainwashing. The two get married, have kids, and train the next generation of Jedi together.

Right now, we're not quite sure how Lucasfilm will bring Mara Jade into the big screen. After all, the character is closely tied to Luke whose story is expected to end with the release of The Rise of Skywalker. Perhaps the studio could adapt Mara's story instead, creating a character similar to Mara, instead of actually featuring her in a new film.

Let's just wait and see.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
