Lucasfilm Reportedly Making More Star Wars Movie Announcements Than Anticipated

The future of the Star Wars franchise in the theatrical movie side post-Rise of Skywalker remains uncertain despite several projects that have been in the works for the last couple of years as well as the eventual cancellation of some of them. However, it is expected that they will make an announcement about it at the upcoming Star Wars Celebration event in London.

One of the feature films that have been in the works is the Sharmeed Obaid-Chinoy project that is now written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight after the recent departure of Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson, who were penning the earlier drafts prior to their exit.

The Obaid-Chinoy feature project is expected to be the next movie in the Star Wars franchise as Lucasfilm is eager to move forward with a new film soon. Reports have also claimed that the studio will unveil more details about the project in the upcoming event next month.

However, it looks like the studio might reveal more movie projects than we anticipated as reporter Jeff Sneider recently revealed in The Hot Mic podcast that he heard from sources that Lucasfilm is set to announce three new Star Wars films in the upcoming Celebration event next month.

In addition, Sneider also claimed that Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy is heavily focusing on the Obaid-Chinoy project to release by December 2025 as her job will depend on whether she will be able to make that happen.

"This is a big movie, not just for Star Wars, but for Kathleen Kennedy herself. So, I’m told that Kathleen Kennedy’s whole job depends on having a movie in theaters on Christmas Day 2025. If there’s no movie on Christmas Day 2025, there’s no job," he said.

This is certainly a piece of interesting news since it seems to be certain that they will only make one movie announcement next month. Now, it looks like this is a sign that the other projects that are in the works such as Taika Waititi's and Shawn Levy's might happen with them being the second and third films.

It is curious to see whether this will actually be the case and, if it does happen, what other projects will they announce to the public aside from Obaid-Chinoy. Most importantly, whatever they announce next month, hopefully, they will move forward and not receive the same fate as the others.
