Lucasfilm Deletes Podcast and Fan Site Features from Official Star Wars Website

In a move many Star Wars fans will find disappointing, Lucasfilm has decided to delete all of the fan/collecting/podcast features from the official website of the franchise. This feature highlighted a number of fansites and podcasts that would passionately discuss the various parts of this beloved series so many will be sad seeing them off the site. While they can still be found online, their removal from Star Wars.com is pretty disappointing.

Reported by Bleeding Cool, Lucasfilm put an official notice in the section where these features used to be. Apparently, this was done because most of these sites weren't officially affiliated with Lucasfilm or Walt Disney and the fact that they sometimes share different sentiments about the franchise's future didn't help things.

This is the official statement from Lucasfilm:

Notice: Lucasfilm Ltd. strives to foster an inclusive, diverse and safe environment for our fans and we ask the same of our fan community.
Fan organizations, websites, blogs, clubs, podcasts, social media accounts, etc. are not owned, endorsed, sponsored, controlled, or in any way affiliated with Lucasfilm Ltd. or The Walt Disney Company, and do not necessarily reflect the views or opinions of Lucasfilm Ltd., The Walt Disney Company or any of their affiliates, and no warranty expressed or implied is made regarding accuracy, adequacy, completeness, legality, reliability or usefulness of any information. Please see terms of use agreements and privacy policies that apply to such third-party services and content. Star Wars logos, trademarks, character names, and all related elements © & ™ Lucasfilm Ltd. and/or The Walt Disney Company.

Honestly, this is a pretty lame move from both Disney and Lucasfilm since showing these fan sites made it seem like they were endorsed by the franchise they love. Sure, people can have differing opinions over the movie but that doesn't mean they had to be removed from the site. It separated Star Wars from other fandoms since it seemed like they were proud to have fan sites.

Fans can still look for their favorite Star Wars fan sites on the web since they weren't deleted. Still, this is a pretty disappointing move from the two giant corporations and could divide fans even more.
