It looks like Star Wars fans are about to enter a new era of stories as LucasFilm has announced a brand-new initiative of books and comics originally known as Project Luminous and will now be called Star Wars: The High Republic. This new era of Star Wars stories will be set 200 years before The Phantom Menace, also making it 800 years after the Knights of the Old Republic video games.
The High Republic will be set during the "golden age" of the Jedi, and won't overlap with any of the movies or video games that have come out, giving these authors plenty of freedom to write whatever they want. This new publishing initiative will also have some of the top talents that have been working on Star Wars, such as Claudia Gray, Justina Ireland, Daniel José Older, Cavan Scott, and Charles Soule.
Some of the novels announced include Into the Dark by Claudia Gray and A Test of Courage by Justina Ireland. IDW will also release kid-friendly adventures unsurprisingly called Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures, which should go well with the upcoming Star Wars Adventures relaunch. Marvel will release a comic book simply called Star Wars: The High Republic, though that could just be a placeholder title.
We have a lot of high hopes when it comes to this initiative since the potential for good stories here is pretty high. While we might not see a movie set in this era anytime soon, most of us will just be happy seeing a ton of Jedi prominent, for better or worse.
The first few books and comics of Star Wars: The High Republic will debut during Star Wars Celebration Anaheim, which will be this August.
