Lord Of The Rings Cast Gets Advice From Original Film’s Aragorn

There was a whole lot of excitement when word came out that Amazon was working on a new Lord of the Rings television series. It's been years since the release of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy, and now Amazon's taking up the task to turn J.R.R. Tolkien's books into a live-action streaming series – a new format for the franchise.

Now, as fans patiently wait for plot details about the upcoming Lord of the Rings TV show to make its way online, original Aragorn actor Viggo Mortensen gives the new series' cast some advice on playing the characters that everyone's come to love.

Mortensen just recently spoke with Collider to help promote his upcoming Oscar-contending movie, Green Block, and during his interview with the actor was asked about what advice he could give to the actors and actresses taking part in the new Lord of the Rings series.

Mortensen's main suggestion? Read the books and the books that influenced the books.

"I would say, not only read the book, you know, very thoroughly, that giant book of Lord of the Rings, but you could read some of the Nordic sagas. You'll get some clues there as to where Tolkien got his information. Like, Sigurd the Dragon Slayer, and the Volsunga saga. Read that."

This is pretty solid advice. Actors and actresses have to be familiar with the source material of whatever show or film they're playing, especially if the project is based off something written by J.R.R. Tolkien. The Lord of the Rings is a pretty detailed high fantasy novel meticulously written by Tolkien. Not only does the book offer dense mythology, but it also engages in heavily-crafted language. The cast would definitely benefit from a little reading assignment to help bring their respective characters to life.

Amazon's Lord of the Rings series has yet to receive a release date, but many believe the show will premiere sometime 2021.
