We've proven through the years that Star Wars: The Last Jedi isn't everyone's cup of tea and no matter how many fans defend it, there will always be people ready to slam the Rian Johnson project for its unorthodox treatment of the Skywalker saga. That includes longtime novelist Alan Dean Foster who recently came out to express his displeasure over Episode VIII.

According to Foster, when he was working on the official novelization for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, he did everything in his power to retcon The Last Jedi but things just didn't make sense to him. The said novelization ultimately didn't see the light of day but it would've attempted to correct the "silly things" and mistakes committed by the 2017 installment. In a recent interview with Midnight's Edge, Foster explains: "Episode VIII was out, it was a done deal. And I went and saw it, and I thought it was a terrible film. I thought it was a terrible Star Wars movie, and there's no need to go into why because every fan already has. I thought, 'How can this be retconned? How can we fix as much as possible from Episode VIII in a proposed Episode IX?' And I wrote a partial treatment for that, attempting in that storyline to explain a lot of the really silly things that happened in Episode VIII."

It's totally not a good sign when people who know the Star Wars franchise better than anyone else don't approve of a certain project but then again, there's really nothing we can do to erase TLJ, and the entire sequel trilogy for the matter, from existence. Even an attempt to reboot the last three films won't do any good and it will only be equivalent to accepting defeat and I don't think Lucasfilm is ready for the conversation. Still, that's not to say that The Last Jedi is total garbage as I believe that it still has its redeeming qualities.

That said, Star Wars:The Last Jedi is up for streaming via Disney+ if you'd like to give it a chance.
