The year 2021 was a success for the MCU as it marked the beginning of Phase Four. All films did well at the box office, especially Spider-Man: No Way Home which has been breaking a lot of pandemic box office records. All TV shows were also well-received by the fans and the critics with WandaVision even getting a lot of Emmy nominations.
Now that the awards season is underway, we're getting a lot of nominations announcements and recognitions for the best of film and TV last year. Today, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) unveiled their TV nominations in which Loki and WandaVision were among the shows that were recognized.
Loki received two nominations which are Best Dramatic Series and Best New Series. In the Best Dramatic Series category, it will be competing against shows such as The Handmaid's Tale, The Morning Show, Succession, and Yellowjackets while in the Best New Series category, it will be competing against fellow new shows from last year such as Hacks, Only Murders in the Building, Reservation Dogs, and Yellowjackets.
Meanwhile, WandaVision received a Best Adapted Long Form category in which it will be competing against other limited series such as Halston, Impeachment: American Crime Story, Maid, and The Underground Railroad.
It is impressive that these MCU shows received these nominations as it means the guild, which is consists of thousands of writers in the entertainment industry, recognizes the work of the writers. It also indicates that they like those shows a lot and they are willing to give it this kind of recognition. It is more impressive when you think about all the hundreds of shows that aired last year and the two MCU shows were able to make it on this list which only has five nominees in each category.
The 2022 Writers Guild of America (WGA) ceremony is scheduled to happen on March 20 where we will find out if those shows will win.
