There is little doubt that Jonathan Majors is set for big things after appearing as He Who Remains in the season finale of Loki. He's set to reprise his role (sort of) in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania and could show up in more Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. However, Majors still looks back to the past fondly. The Lovecraft Country star has just addressed the HBO show's cancellation, revealing how he and the rest of the cast have felt.
Lovecraft Country was one of the most visceral shows that aired on HBO in the past few years. The series immediately intrigued fans and received praise from audiences and critics alike. It became so popular that people began looking forward to a second season that would continue the story.
Unfortunately, things didn't work out as expected. HBO cancelled Lovecraft Country just as showrunner Misha Green was already developing a second season. Not surprisingly, everyone including the cast was shocked.
But how does Majors feel about the cancellation? The Loki star spoke to Indiewire and confirmed that he still keeps in contact with co-stars Courtney B. Vance and Jurnee Smollett.
"We are a family. I had a text from Courtney this morning, and Jurnee and I talk damn near every day," Majors said. He then admitted that they are saddened by the cancellation but feel pride for what they had done with the show.
"We're very happy, but there is a bit of a ennui, a bit of sadness, because we're done. We did it and we did it well, I believe. And it's over with now, so it's really jarring," Majors said.
We're all sad that there won't be a Lovecraft Country Season 2. After all, Green had shared plans for the second season and it seemed like an intriguing idea. Still, we look forward to Majors' other works in the future.
Majors will return as Kang the Conqueror (a Variant of He Who Remains) in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, which is scheduled for release on February 17, 2023.
