We already know that Loki Season 2 is happening, thanks to the awesome shot in the previous season finale. However, the big question is, when can we expect the second season? Kevin Feige has offered an update on the return of the Marvel Cinematic Universe series but it's not as hopeful as expected.
Fans were understandably excited when the Loki Season 1 finale confirmed that Season 2 is coming. However, the original team that worked on the MCU series will not be intact for the second season. Director Kate Herron confirmed that she will not be back to work on more episodes of the Disney+ show.
Losing Herron is a slight inconvenience for fans who had enjoyed her work on the first season. However, it could be a major setback for the show as Feige confirms that Marvel is still looking for a new director.
"It is underway. We're developing it as we speak. The hope is that much of the same team will return," the Marvel boss told Collider. He then revealed that they are now looking for a new director but still wishing the best for Herron.
"Kate is going on to bigger and better things, so the director search will begin shortly," Feige said.
It shouldn't be a huge surprise that Marvel is looking for a new director but the idea that the studio hasn't found one yet means Loki Season 2 is still in early development. Things are expected to move forward quickly once a director is found but until then, production can't begin soon. Hopefully, a new director will be confirmed before the end of the year.
So when exactly can we expect Loki Season 2? If it begins production by next year, there's a chance we could see it by the end of 2022. However, there are several shows still in the works so it would be best not to hold your breath just yet.
Loki Season 2 has not yet been given an official release date but is expected to premiere on Disney+ in the future. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
