The second season of Loki brought back all the main characters from the first season while adding a couple of fresh faces who are expected to have pivotal roles in the storyline of the new season.

With five episodes still to go, some fans are wondering whether they still have surprise cameos in store for the rest of the season, whether it's a familiar MCU character or a new character played by a well-known actor whose casting has not been announced yet.

In the first season, Jaimie Alexander notably made a cameo as Lady Sif in the fourth episode while the finale featured a surprise appearance from Jonathan Majors, who showed up as the Kang variant He Who Remains and was revealed to be the mastermind behind the TVA.

Since the MCU shows and films are notorious for occasionally doing surprise cameo appearances from fan-favorite characters or well-known figures, it was likely that the new season of Loki could do it again in the later episodes.

However, it looks like that might not be the case anymore according to the head writer of the new season.

In an interview with The New York Times, Loki season 2 head writer Eric Martin revealed that, while they have creative freedom on how they shaped the story of the season, they were still prevented by Marvel Studios from using certain characters since they're being used in another MCU project.

"We’re fortunate that we really have our own little sandbox here where we’re able to be really creative and branch off into other directions without stepping on other projects," he said.

"And some of that’s by design, while some of that is just what we found along the way. In terms of actual marching orders, there have been certain points where it’s like, 'Oh, you know what, this character is being used by another project,' and you just have to pivot."

Martin continued, "But in terms of our drama and our story and where we’re taking our characters, it really is just following them and their needs and proving them on the page. And if we can prove that then nobody steps in and says you need to do something different."

It's not surprising to hear that they were blocked from using some of the characters in the second season since we have heard stories from past MCU directors and writers who pitched an idea that was immediately dismissed since they could conflict with the plans in other MCU projects.

While we may never know which characters they were not allowed for the new season, it sounds like they may have considered doing cameos from certain characters since it is a multiversal story.

Now, it looks like they will focus more on the existing characters within the TVA and explore their dynamic rather than making it full of easter eggs and fan service cameos that may have dwindled the story.

For now, let's wait and see how it will all unfold in the rest of the season.
