Loki Episode 5 Revealed What Happened to Legendary Polybius Arcade Game

It's no secret that Loki Episode 5 had A LOT of Easter Eggs. With the Variants stuck in the Void where anything and everything gets dumped, the land was filled with items and people who have mysteriously disappeared. So it's no surprise that Journey Into Mystery revealed what happened to the legendary video game Polybius after all this time.

Polybius is a video game that was released in 1981 that is believed to be part of a government-run crowdsourced psychology experiment. According to the urban legend, the video game was so addictive that people would line up and end up fighting for a turn at the arcade.

Interestingly, playing the game had terrible side effects like amnesia, insomnia, night terrors and hallucinations. The video game cabinets were reportedly visited by Men in Black to collect data before Polybius was ultimately pulled from arcades just a month after release. To this day, it is unclear whether the video game truly existed or if it was a mere urban legend.

But did Loki just confirm what happened to the video game? In Loki Episode 5, the Variants clearly had a Polybius arcade cabinet in their bunker. This strongly suggests that the video game was dangerous enough to attract the attention of the TVA who pruned the title or at least that one arcade cabinet where fights usually ensue.

Or is it possible that Polybius was actually a Hydra experiment? The effects of the video game certainly sound like something that Hydra would be interested in. Although it's unlikely that we'll learn the truth about Polybius, it's still awesome to see that the Loki Variants have it in their bunker and probably enjoy playing it.

Loki Episode 5 is now streaming on Disney+.
