Loki Episode 1 Recap: The God of Mischief Finds His Glorious Purpose

The first episode of Loki is finally here and the premiere immediately revealed what happened to the God of Mischief after the events in Avengers: Endgame. Not surprisingly, Episode 1 also presented Tom Hiddleston's character with what could only be referred to as "a glorious purpose."

WARNING: The following contains SPOILERS from Loki Episode 1. PROCEED WITH CAUTION!

In Glorious Purpose, the Time Variance Authority catches the alternate version of Loki as he escapes to the Gobi Desert after grabbing the Tesseract from Endgame. He is then sentenced to TVA court where Ravonna Renslayer oversees his case.

Loki is later taken to a secret room by TVA agent Mobius M. Mobius who questions the God of Mischief on his love of hurting and killing people. Although Loki seems to accept that he is a villain, Mobius isn't so certain.

This is when Loki is shown what happened in the Sacred Timeline after his capture (and escape) during the Battle of New York. He sees his own parents Frigga and Odin die and watches as he bonds with Thor. Loki then gets to see how he had died at the hands of Thanos.

It's an emotional sequence for Loki and seeing all these events happening is enough for him to decide that he doesn't enjoy hurting or killing people. He then agrees to work with Mobius in taking down the rogue variant of himself from messing up the Sacred Timeline.

Overall, Loki Episode 1 was an excellent way to reintroduce the God of Mischief and bring in the new characters he will be working with. In addition to that, Glorious Purpose also made sure we got the heroic Loki in the series. Needless to say, we can't wait to see him in action again next week.

Loki Episode 1 is now streaming on Disney+.
