Indeed, one of the most highly-anticipated series in the slate of Marvel on Disney+ is Loki where the God of Mischief gets his very own adventure in his titular canon show. The director of the series tells the fans to prepare as they are "taking him on a very unique, new journey."
In an interview with Digital Spy, director Kate Herron and head writer Michael Waldron shared their story as to how they made the show and they were also in it for a ride as they revealed that making the series is not an easy task to fully be able to showcase their vision for the MCU Disney+ show.
Herron shared, "Loki's in a very different place to where we've seen him in the last 10 years. We're taking him on a very unique, new journey. It's him working out who he is, and trying to basically undo this mess he's made with time, with the TVA."
With the plot of the show heavily centered on the science-fiction behind time and how it works in the MCU, it has posed a challenge for both of them to make sure that the series would be an enjoyable one on top of the complexities of the ideas inculcated in the show.
According to Waldron, "We had to establish a logical foundational sci-fi reality for the show. It's the TVA. They police time. That meant that we had to create rules, and build out what do they do? Why do they do it? For the writers' room, they all had drawings and stuff like this on the whiteboards."
Waldron added, "And that necessitates really complex explanations and ideas. Then you have to figure out: 'OK, how can we boil this down in a very simple way so that the audience is going to understand what Loki is going through, but they're not going to feel like they're in science class? They're not going to tune out because they're bored?"
Having only six episodes throughout the season, it is a real hard thing to fit all the information that the show would need to concretely establish the ideas that the show has plus the character of Loki himself is complicated as well. Considering that Loki is one character with a very broad character development throughout the years, the brains behind his show need all the elements to resonate clearly with each other. Every perspective is taken into consideration.
With a set of passionate people behind the project, Loki will surely be one hell of a treat especially to the fans and viewers of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As early as now, having produced the series with all the twists and turns that the series entails, it's safe to say that Herron and Waldron already secured a win.
Kudos to you, Kate Herron, and Michael Waldron!
Loki premieres on June 9, 2021, exclusively on Disney+.
