From the moment they first met, a lot of fans quickly noticed the undeniable chemistry between Loki and Sylvie and it already comes as no surprise how the connection between the two variants blossomed from "enemies" to actual friends and potentially lovers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Loki's Season 1 finale episode pretty much sealed the deal and addressed the brewing romance between the two but many fans aren't having any of it.

Following the release of Episode 6, the controversial kiss between Loki and Sylvie sparked a massive outcry on social media and people are even referring to the climactic moment as incestuous because, you know, at the end of the day, they're still the exact same person, just from different timelines.

Now, the show's director Kate Herron is finally breaking her silence amidst the controversy and despite some fans insisting that the thing between "Sylki" is wrong on so many levels, she claims that while they are indeed versions of the God of Mischief, they aren't exactly the same person.

In an interview with Polygon, Herron explains: "My interpretation of it is that they're both Lokis, but they aren't the same person. I don't see them as being like brother and sister. They have completely different backgrounds […] and I think that's really important to her character. They sort of have the same role in terms of the universe and destiny, but they won't make the same decisions."

I've said this countless times over the last couple of weeks and I'll say it again, I'm not that bothered by the supposed romance between Loki and Sylvie, and what I like about their dynamic is that the "enchanting" Goddess of Mischief brought out the more sensible and relatable side of the oftentimes devious Loki, something that we seldom witnessed in the MCU.

All episodes of Loki are now streaming on Disney+.
