Live-Action One Piece’s Sanji, Taz Skylar, Delivers Message to Fans as Filming Ends

One Piece Sanji Message

With filming having wrapped up recently, the live-action One Piece series’ Taz Skylar, who plays Sanji, shared a heartfelt message to fans online.

Skylar’s message was shared via his personal Instagram account. There, he thanked his fellow castmates and staff for the incredible experience of filming the upcoming show.

In his message, Skylar mentioned how he was struggling with his mental health when he first came into the series. But thanks to the show’s cast and crew, Skylar was able to grow from the experience.

A funny thing that was noticed by @newworldartur is that Skylar tagged nearly everyone in the cast except for Mackenyu who plays Zoro. What’s funny about this is Zoro and Sanji are often at each other’s throats in One Piece, and this seems like a reference to it.

Though the more likely explanation is that Mackenyu might have a stricter non-disclosure agreement as a Japanese actor. This means it’s possible that he is not as free to post more personal messages on social media.

The upcoming series is Skylar’s first major Netflix role, though he is regarded as a stage actor. Skylar has played roles in several West-End productions such as Warheads and Agatha Christie's Witness For The Prosecution.

Skylar joins the series cast as Sanji alongside Iñaki Godoy as Luffy, Mackenyu as Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Peter Gadiot as Shanks.

The upcoming One Piece live-action series was announced by series creator Eiichiro Oda and Netflix in January 2020. Production of the show then began in early 2022, with filming commencing in South Africa.

This series is the next anime series that is getting a Netflix-produced live-action version. The One Piece live-action show is also produced by Tomorrow Studios, the same production company as last year’s Cowboy Bebop.

One Piece started as a manga series by Oda which has been serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump since 1997. Since then, the series has become one of the biggest media franchises globally.

Given this, Netflix has big plans for the show. A recent report even says that it will be given the Stranger Things treatment when promotion for the show begins.
