Lightsum Members Huiyeon and Jian Leave K-pop Girl Group, Cube Entertainment Confirms

Lightsum delivered good news and bad news over a year after it debuted.

In 2021, Cube Entertainment confirmed the debut of its new girl group — the first one since introducing (G)I-DLE in 2018. The group name Lightsum is made of the words light and sum, which reportedly mean “things that shine small gather together to light up the world, delivering greater positive energy through a message of hope.”

When things are already falling into the right places for the group, it recently shared the good and bad news.

Lightsum Loses 2 Members

Korea JoongAng Daily quoted Cube Entertainment’s statement on Tuesday regarding the exit of Lightsum’s two members. According to the agency, Huiyeon and Jian will no longer be part of the lineup.

"After much deliberation, it has been decided that Lightsum will continue its activities as a six-member group. We are sincerely sorry to announce this sudden news to the fans of the group who have always loved and supported Lightsum,” it said.

Cube Entertainment assured everyone that it would continue supporting Lightsum as the group proceeds as a six-member girl group. It also asked fans to support Huiyeon and Jian despite leaving.

The statement, however, did not disclose the two now-ex-members’ reasons behind their exit.

After they left, members Sangah, Chowon, Nayoung, Hina, Juhyeon, and Yujeong will continue promoting as Lightsum. The group notably debuted in June 2021 with the single, Vanilla.

Lightsum Confirms Attendance at 2022 Genie Music Awards

Amid the bad news, Lightsum also delivered good news.

The 2022 Genie Music Awards recently confirmed the lineup of its artists for the ceremony, including the girl group. Joining Lightsum on the list are TNX, NCT Dream, Jaurim, and PSY.

It was previously confirmed that Red Velvet, (G)I-DLE, Taeyeon, DKZ, IVE, The Boyz, and Be’O would attend the ceremony. It also tapped Jun Hyun Moo to host the event.

The 2022 Genie Music Awards will be held on November 8.
