Liam Neeson Is Open To Returning To The Star Wars Franchise As Qui-Gon Jinn

Lucasfilm's reportedly working on an Obi-WanKenobi spinoff, and while everyone's busy hoping that Ewan Mcgregor might reprise his role as the benevolent Jedi Knight in the standalone movie, action star Liam Neeson says he wouldn't mind returning to the Star Wars franchise as Qui-Gon Jinn.

Sitting down to speak with Yahoo Movies UK to help promote his upcoming movie, The Commuter, Neeson was asked about the Obi-Wan solo movie that's reportedly in development. Though the Irish actor says that he isn't aware of the standalone film, he isn't exactly against making a Star Wars come back.

"This is the first time I'm hearing of this. No one's been in touch with me. I know in the Star Wars world anything is possible. In the first one, The Phantom Menace, I died but we know, you know, Jedis come back and stuff but no one's been in touch. We'll see."

For those who aren't familiar with Neeson's character, Qui-Gon Jinn served as Obi-Wan's master in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. Though it might seem unlikely that Qui-Gon would be able to return to Star Wars' galaxy far, far away if Lucasfilm told Obi-Wan's story between Episode III and Episode IV, the Jedi could certainly appear as a Force Ghost. Or, the studio could insert a flashback. Who knows.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi movie doesn't have a release date just yet, but we'll let everyone know as soon as we get word.
