The home release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens comes with it a handful of deleted scenes from the film that makes it more exciting to anticipate.
To keep fans hyped, details on the deleted scenes were released via Entertainment Weekly and one of the most interesting is of General Leia. If the scene had made it to the final cut, fans would have seen more of the fan-favorite character and at an earlier time in the film.
The scene involving Leia starts with BB-8 sending a distress call to the Resistance after the bloodbath in Jakku. Being one of the main players of the Resistance, General Leia would have been present at the base deciding on the best way to answer the droid. What particularly makes the scene meaningful for fans is the fact that it would have given fans more time to spend time with the old character even if she did have more exposure than Luke.
The final cut of Star Wars: The Force Awakens introduced Carrie Fisher's character midway through the film landing on Takodana after The First Order attacked the planet. Even if wasn't the first characters shown in Episode VII, her introduction is still fitting. In addition, it gave audiences the more powerful moment of her and Han meeting for the first time assumingly since Kylo Ren turned to the dark side.
While Leia's deleted scene isn't significant, it might answer how Poe Dameron was able to get off Jakku. BB-8's distress call could have caused the Resistance to make some kind of attempt to rescue Poe.
Hopefully, we'll see more of General Leia in when Episode VIII hits theaters on December 15, 2017. Meanwhile, Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be released digitally on April 1 and on DVD/Blu-ray on April 5.
