Legends of Tomorrow Gives Constantine his Most Controversial Change so Far

There is little doubt that there will be certain changes to some comic book characters once they cross over to live-action. However, things have been mostly the same for John Constantine since he was played by Matt Ryan in his own series and even now in Legends of Tomorrow. Interestingly, the latest episode of the CW show has just given the character a controversial new direction that will truly shock fans.

In Legends of Tomorrow Season 5 Episode 6, Nate Heywood was shocked to find Constantine in his library chowing down on sunflower seeds while reading up on the Loom of Fate. When pressed, Constantine admitted that he had quit smoking and is trying to find a new habit to prevent him from lighting up again.

It's a shocking thing for fans considering that Constantine's smoking habit is a huge part of the character. However, Legends of Tomorrow has already given Constantine a reason to quit the vice. After all, the demon Astra had made his lung cancer worse but agreed to fix it once he locates the Loom of Fate. Needless to say, Constantine isn't taking any chances right now.

This isn't the first time that Constantine had quit smoking. The Keanu Reeves film also featured the character giving up his habit after his cancer was removed, giving him more time to live. It's still unclear if Ryan's version will be quitting for good but it could be a major change for the character in the future episodes.

Legends of Tomorrow Season 5 airs on The CW every Tuesday nights.
