A few years later, she receives the news about her father's passing, and the tragic event leads the mistress to claim the house she and her family have been staying in for years.

Lee Sung Kyung Shares Experience in Playing Shim Woo Joo's Character

Lee Sung Kyung recently spoke candidly about playing the role and explained why it has been a liberating experience for her.

The actress sat down for an interview with The Korea Times at a café in Jongno District in central Seoul and talked about why portraying the character has been a "liberating" experience for her.

According to Lee Sung Kyung, she felt free while playing Shim Woo Joo's character but only realized it after filming the whole series.

"I didn't see it during the filming because I was so focused on working on it. But when can I ever have another chance to be completely relaxed in front of so many people and just be myself, like you are allowed to not put effort into putting on a face," she said.

She added that she could focus on her emotion as she played her character which, for her, was liberating.

Lee Sung Kyung Praises Character's Imperfection

Praising her character even more, Lee Sung Kyung expressed how much she grew fond of her character and her imperfection.

She explained that, while the series is a revenge story, she soon realized that her character seems to be far from being capable of doing such a fierce action. She described Shim Woo Joo as someone flawed and tender who was able to make her feel drawn to her.

Although Shim Woo Joo's life looks truly despairing, Lee Sung Kyung added more effort not to show her character as someone too depressed.
