Lea Thompson Provides Update on Howard the Duck Reboot

Ever since he appeared in the post-credits sequence of Guardians of the Galaxy, fans have been wondering when we would see Howard the Duck in a more prominent role. While he made a cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, it wasn't the role many were hoping to see him in.

Lea Thompson, who starred in the original Howard the Duck movie, has been talking about pitching a reboot for the infamous film. Speaking with SyFy Wire, Thompson revealed that she will continue working on the project but is optimistic about Marvel picking it up eventually, feeling that the company has some interest in it.

Thompson feels that Howard has a place in the MCU that doesn't just involve making cameos and feels that Marvel could bring him back some day. In the comics, the character is often the straight man to the ridiculous ongoings of Marvel's heroes, which is humorous since Howard is a talking duck.

"When we made Howard the Duck there wasn't the CGI, there wasn't the script, there wasn't the Marvel machine behind it. And I think they have a slight appetite for it, since they're drawing him for Guardians of the Galaxy."

He might not have an ongoing series right now but Howard's most recent comic by Chip Zdarsky did receive plenty of acclaim at the time. Making Howard the central point of a future Marvel comedy that parodies the MCU formula would be a ton of fun.
