LE SSERAFIM faced a new issue as their win against Lim Young Woong on Music Bank is now under investigation.

The issue started on May 13 when the popular trot singer Lim Young Woong’s If We Ever Meet Again faced LE SSERAFIM’s Fearless battled on Music Bank to win the first place. The trophy eventually went to the girl group with 7,881 points, while the soloist only had 7,035 points.

However, viewers noticed Music Bank’s score calculation that led to the singer’s defeat. The incident even led fans to post complaints on KBS’ official website.

Weeks after it happened, the police confirmed a new development to look into the issue.

Police Start Investigating Music Bank Score

A civilian recently filed a complaint with South Korea’s Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission.

On Sunday, the police confirmed that the Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul received the complaint accusing Music Bank of tampering with the singer’s broadcast score.

It then divulged that a probe is currently underway to determine what went wrong and if there was truly an altering that happened.

“As the allegations have not yet been confirmed, we currently plan to investigate by speaking to the complainants and more. If the allegations of manipulation are found to be true, we will switch to a full-scale investigation,” the police said.

Music Bank computes the score by determining digital scores (60 percent), broadcast scores (20 percent), viewer panel surveys (10 percent), physical album sales (5 percent), and social media scores (5 percent).

Lim Young Wong’s Fans Demand Explanation

After the blunder, the singer’s fan club members told KBS to explain how Lim Young Woong’s score had the best digital score but ended up being in the second place due to the broadcast score.

The initial statement from Music Bank explained that If We Ever Meet Again got zero on the broadcast score as it was not played on any KBS TV programs, radio programs, or digital content from May 2 to 8.

However, Dispatch eventually shared a report enumerating the times Lim Young Woong’s If We Ever Meet Again got played on the network during that week.

“The radio broadcast score is calculated using only seven KBS Cool FM radio programs. Aside from these seven programs, other [KBS radio] programs do not factor into our scores,” Music Bank responded to Dispatch.

An update regarding the investigation is yet to be released.
