Latest Captain Marvel Trailer Has a Small Continuity Error

The recently released "special look" at Captain Marvel was actually pretty good, showing a good amount of humor and action whilst also the mystery behind Carol Danvers' powers. It's what the first two trailers should have been, instead of being bland and by-the-numbers. However, those that have been up to date with their MCU lore might have noticed a minor continuity error near the end.

When Carol and Nick Fury are trading quips about the S.H.I.E.L.D. logo near the trailer's end, it's odd that the organization already goes by that acronym. Fans will remember how the first Iron Man had Phil Coulson constantly calling the place he works for by its full name, the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division. Considering how this movie takes place before Iron Man, this is pretty odd.

However, S.H.I.E.L.D. has been shown in a number of flashbacks and period Marvel shows since then, such as Ant-Man and Agent Peggy Carter, so this might be something Marvel is purposefully ignoring. This is a bit of a shame since Coulson finally saying "call us S.H.I.E.L.D." was a pretty cool moment in that film.

In the end, this is a minor quibble and there have been much worse errors in the MCU. Spider-Man: Homecoming supposedly takes place in the year 2020 or more. Hulk and War Machine have gone through actor changes, though many seem to have enjoyed their replacements since then. Basically, fans should still be excited about the next MCU film.

Captain Marvel comes out on March 8, 2019.
