Atlanta star LaKeith Stanfield recently responded to the Silver Surfer casting news in the MCU reboot of The Fantastic Four and it made fans wonder whether he was in contention for the role.

A few days ago, it was reported that Emmy-winning actress Julia Garner was cast to play the Shalla-Bal version of the Silver Surfer in the MCU film, which came as a surprise for many fans.

The casting has garnered various responses with some welcoming the idea of a different Silver Surfer being introduced in the First Family's MCU debut while some questioned why Marvel is going with a female version of the character.

As reported by Screen Rant, right after reports came that Garner had joined The Fantastic Four, Stanfield reacted to the news on his now-deleted Instagram post where he seemingly suggested that he was in contention for the role.

"Thought it was going to be me but ig," he wrote in his caption.

The Atlanta star was notably one of the popular fancast for the role of Silver Surfer before Garner was officially cast.

A lot of fans are now wondering whether Stanfield's deleted post was a tease that he was in talks to play the Silver Surfer or if he might just be messing around with the fans who wanted him for the role.

However, Garner's casting still does not shoot down any possibility for Stanfield to play the Silver Surfer since she is set to play a different version of the character with Shalla-Bal.

Perhaps Stanfield could still get cast to play the Norrin Radd version of Silver Surfer either in the first Fantastic Four film or in another MCU project down the line where he will make his official debut.

So far, there is no word yet regarding whether Norrin Radd will also appear in the film or only the Shalla-Ball version of the Silver Surfer will be introduced.

For now, fans should wait for more news and updates regarding the film or whether Stanfield will eventually join the MCU.

The Fantastic Four is scheduled to release in theaters on July 25, 2025.
