What Is a Kudayari Spear?
The kudayari spear is a unique form of spear. Before we explore the nature of this spear, let’s first understand what "kudayari" means.
In Japanese, kuda means tube while yari means spear. So, basically, it is an improvised tube spear.
Therefore, the tube spear is essentially a straightforward spear, known as su-yari, distinguished by the clever addition of a tube that encases the shaft.
This design allows the spear to slide freely through the wooden tube, significantly reducing friction during thrusting.
Now, let’s have a look at Hyoga’s kudayari spear in Dr. Stone. In Episode 18 of Dr. Stone: New World, Senku, Kinro, and others are working on making the kudayari spear for Hyoga.
Just before Moz could attack Hyoga, his new-and-improved kudayari spear was ready.
Originally crafted for Kinro, the spear tip is adorned with a layer of gold coating.
What Is Hyoga’s Kudayari Spear Technique in Dr. Stone?
Hyoga’s spear features a Kan-style boom as the shaft passes through a hollow tube enabling him to twist while pushing into the shape of a full moon as it spins.
Episode 18 of the third season showcases Hyoga unleashing his exemplary kudayari spear technique.
As he challenges Moz, Hyoga tells him that he must get ready to see the spear of science.
He then announces that he will unleash 500 years of Owari Kanryu-style.
As Hyoga launches his attack, Moz is surprised to see the rapid circular movement of his spear.
The attack looks like a round moon emitting golden light because of the gold tip.
Moz is shocked beyond belief that a spear attack could be this fast. He notes that Hyoga’s spear is not moving like a spear.
Hyoga reveals that it is leverage. He adds that he is using the barrel as a support.
He also reveals that the kudayari spear technique takes a few years to master.
Hyoga praises the Kingdom of Science for crafting a kudayari that works remarkably well on the battlefield.
Moz, who at this point is hardly able to defend against the relentless attack, calls Hyoga’s spear a sorcery weapon.
Finally, Hyoga is able to defeat Moz in the battle using his refined kudayari spear powered by his flawless technique.
