Krypton: Why Adam Strange Was Chosen Over Booster Gold

When Adam Strange was announced for SyFy's Krypton show, DC fans were pleasantly surprised to know that this obscure character would get a chance to shine here. Despite this, some fans were wondering why Booster Gold wasn't chosen since the character is known for his time travel shenanigans. In fact, Booster is accompanying Superman to Krypton's past right now in the pages of Action Comics, though it's unrelated to the show.

During a panel for the series in the Television Critics Association (via IGN), the people involved in the show were asked why Booster wasn't on the show. Geoff Johns, one of the show's producers, explained why in a gleefully geeky manner.

"Adam Strange... one of the great things about him is that his core story is that on Earth, he just kind of blends in -- he's an average man. But when he travels via this Zeta Beam to another planet like Rann, he becomes this hero. He finds the hero within him. And so that conceit and the Zeta Beam technology plays into why Adam Strange specifically is able to travel from Earth present day to the past in Krypton. And he's an unlikely hero. He's the unlikely choice to shoulder this burden of trying to stop someone from the present from destroying Superman's legacy."

Strange is definitely an unconventional choice but he should make a great point-of-view character for Krypton. It looks like we'll have to wait for Booster's time to shine in either the movies or television shows, just not this one. Booster Gold's only live-action appearance was in Smallville. He has made animated appearances in Justice League Unlimited, Batman: The Brave and The Bold, and Justice League Action.

Krypton will be showing on SyFy on March 21.
