King Charles expressed his gratefulness to Princess Diana after she delivered Prince William and Prince Harry because she had given him an "heir and spare," the Duke of Sussex claimed in his book, Spare.
King Charles Said' Wonderful' After Princess Diana Gave Birth To Spare Prince Harry
The Duke of Sussex detailed several family secrets and intimate details in his book Spare. One of the things he shared was his father's alleged reaction after he was born.
King Charles thanked his late wife after Prince Harry's birth because it signified that he had a spare. He already has an heir in Prince William, People reported.
The details were shared after The Guardian obtained an extract from Prince Harry's book Spare, days before its official release.
"Early on, Harry recounts the story of how his father, now King Charles, supposedly said to his wife, Princess Diana, on the day of Harry's birth: 'Wonderful! Now you've given me an heir and a spare – my work is done,'" The Guardian reported
The outlet noted Prince Harry's "resentment of being the 'spare'" as a "unifying theme" in his book.
Prince Harry Claims He Was Brought To The World As Brother Prince William's Back Up
The Duke of Sussex detailed his sentiments as a spare to his brother Prince William in his book released Tuesday. According to him, he had heard the word growing up in the royal household.
"Pa and Mummy and Grandpa. And Even Granny," Prince Harry wrote, according to Entertainment Tonight. "I was the shadow, the support, the Plan B."
He claimed he was there as a distraction, probably to cover up his brother's messes and as a potential donor for his sibling, the future king. Prince Harry felt that his existence was for the sole purpose of supporting the heir's reputation and health.
"I was brought into the world in case something happened to Willy," he continued.
"I was summoned to provide back-up, distraction, diversion and, if necessary, a spare part. Kidney, perhaps. Blood transfusion. Speck of bone marrow. This was all made explicitly clear to me from the start of life's journey and regularly reinforced thereafter."
