Prince Harry got candid about being a spare to his brother, Prince William, who is the heir to the throne. According to him, he was only brought to the world to ensure his sibling's safety.

Prince Harry Speaks About Being A Spare In His Memoir

The Duke of Sussex shared several stories, including his sentiments in his book, Spare, which was out Tuesday. According to Meghan Markle's husband, the title of his book was a term he had heard growing up. Everyone in the royal household reportedly used it.

"Pa and Mummy and Grandpa. And Even Granny," Prince Harry wrote, according to Entertainment Tonight. "I was the shadow, the support, the Plan B."

He went on and detailed his own take on being a sibling to the heir. As a spare, Prince Harry claimed he was there to ensure Prince William's reputation as a "distraction" and probably the future king's health as a donor if needed.

"I was brought into the world in case something happened to Willy," he continued.

"I was summoned to provide back-up, distraction, diversion and, if necessary, a spare part. Kidney, perhaps. Blood transfusion. Speck of bone marrow. This was all made explicitly clear to me from the start of life's journey and regularly reinforced thereafter."

Prince Harry Driven To Beat Archnemesis Brother Prince William?

In the book, Prince Harry considered Kate Middleton's husband a "beloved" brother and his "archnemesis." In his interview with Michael Strahan ahead of the release of Spare for Good Morning America, the interviewer asked him why he considered his brother a frenemy.

"There has always been this competition between us weirdly," Meghan Markle's husband replied. "I think it really plays into or played by the heir and spare."

Strahan replied, "so the heir was jealous of spare." The statement received mixed responses from the netizens, but many doubt it was the case.

"Jealous of the Spare, I think its the other way around, And Harry says it's the truth, is this his Objective truth or his Subjective truth, how he feels so no facts? I mean Telling William that he only believes that stuff about Meghan because of Tabloids. Really," one commented on the clip.

Meanwhile, Paul Burrell, a former royal butler, echoed the same sentiment. According to him, it was Prince Harry who was competing with the future king.

"Harry is always being driven because he wants to beat his brother, because his brother seems to have all the goals. He had all the accolades and so Harry dug his feet in and wanted to be as good as his brother," he said in a documentary.
