Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly anxious after a telling change on the royal family's official website. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been recently demoted, and it could mean more, according to a report.
Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Reportedly Worried After Demotion
Over the weekend, a telling change was made on the royal family's official website. Prince Harry and Markle were pushed further down the page. They were initially positioned under Prince William and Kate Middleton when they were working royals.
In January 2020, the couple announced that they were stepping back from their royal duties. Following their decision, their page was placed under Princess Anne's. However, at present, Prince Harry and Markle's pages were pushed further down and now sit atop disgraced Prince Andrew.
According to The Sun, the royal couple is "worried" with the change that "they are being edged out of the royal family."
"Harry and Meghan must be worried that they are slowly being eased out of the royal picture," royal biographer Phil Dampier told The Sun. "King Charles seems to be hesitating on whether to grant Prince and Princess titles to Archie and Lilibet."
He added, "And the fact that they have been 'demoted' on the Palace website is another indicator that they are not seen as working royals."
King Charles And Prince William Agree With Queen Elizabeth?
Before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their royal duties, they reportedly proposed to be semi-working royals. They didn't really expect to leave the royal life but wanted to have the freedom to live their lives.
"They tried to find a way to compromise," Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand wrote in their book Finding Freedom. "But would that have enabled them to have that level of happiness and security that they have today? Probably not. Those ties to the institution [of the monarchy] would have still been strong and there would have constantly been issues about financial endeavors and the business decisions they made."
However, the late Queen vetoed their "one foot in, one foot out" approach. Her Majesty reportedly insisted that in "stepping away from the work of The Royal Family it is not possible to continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service."
Dampier believed that the demotion was a message reminding the Sussexes and the people that they are not working royals anymore. The royal expert believed that the move could be an indication that King Charles and Prince William agreed with the Queen's stand about royal duties.
"The King will want to make it clear that they are not working royals and can't pose as semi-official royals," he explained. "They are relegated to the bottom of the league table with disgraced Prince Andrew and at the moment there is no way of them climbing up it."
Prince Harry's biographer Angela Levin echoed the same sentiment. For her, the page was an accurate reflection of the Sussexes' position in the firm.
"I thought it was a very careful statement," she told The Sun Online. "The fact is that what they are doing is zero - it just shows people what they're not doing and how valuable that is in the Royal Family. I think putting Harry down there at the bottom is a sort of safety valve - you don't expect anything from them."
