Kim Young Dae New Drama: Rising Star Becomes the King in MBC's Historical Drama

Kim Young Dae is set to headline his first-ever historical Kdrama.

The 26-year-old rising star confirmed his appearance in MBC's Joseon's Ban on Marriage and will be teamed up with Love All Play star Park Ju Hyun.

After the triumphant finale of Shooting Stars, Kim Young Dae is set to make hearts swoon with the romance series Joseon's Ban on Marriage as he plays King Lee Heon. 

The historical Kdrama follows the story of King Lee Heon, who lost his wife. It has been seven years since she passed away, but he still couldn't move on, and it is still hard for him to accept her death.

Despite the royal family's attempt to look for his new wife, the King declined to remarry. With this, the government banned marriage and would only lift the prohibition until King Lee Heon got married.

However, a con artist named Ye So Rang, played by Park Ju Hyun, claimed that she is possessed by the spirit of the late crown princess.

Will the King believe So Rang, and what will be the royal family's take on this?

Joining Kim Young Dae and Park Ju Hyun is Kim Woo Seok as officer Lee Shin Won. in addition, rapper Giriboy took on the role of royal painting Jung Do Seok, while former IZ*ONE member Kim Min Ju will portray Ahn Ja Yeon.

Kim Young Dae on Portraying a Top Actor in Shooting Stars

Before transforming as a King of Joseon, Kim Young Dae portrayed top star Gong Tae Sung in Shooting Stars.

He is paired with Lee Sung Kyung, who played PR representative Oh Han Byul.

The rom-com series recently wrapped up, but viewers are still hooked on the duo's undeniable chemistry.

During his interview with MBC, the rising star spoke about his character and the focus of the drama, which is the lives of the people working behind cameras.

As obtained by Soompi, Kim Young Dae liked the part about how Shooting Stars "depicted the reality of the entertainment industry."

Moreover, the rom-com Kdrama highlights "inspiring and exciting components in order to connect with the audience."

In terms of his similarity with Gong Tae Sung, the actor says he is "very different" from his character, especially in the way he works.

"I'm not a star yet. Since he's such a top celebrity, I was worried about how to portray the cliché of a 'romantic comedy' protagonist in my style," he explained. Adding that, he watched a bunch of Kdramas similar to Shooting Star.

It includes The Greatest Love, My Love From the Star, headlined by Kim Soo Hyun and Jun Ji Hyun, and Entourage starring Lee Kwang Soo, Jo Jin Woong, and more.

Prior to his role in Shooting Stars, Kim Young Dae was best known for his role as Joo dan Tae and Shim Soo Ryeon's son Joo Seok Hoon, who is far different from his twin sister Joo Seok Kyung, played by Han Ji Hyun.

For three seasons, he reprised his role and showed stellar performance as Joo Seok Hoon.
