Kevin Smith Calls The New Trailer For Venom “Tom Hardy: The Movie”

Last week, Sony released the first teaser trailer for its highly anticipated Spider-Man spinoff movie, Venom. Running at close to two minutes, the preview focuses mostly on Tom Hardy's version of Eddie Brock, a disgraced and suicidal journalist who comes in contact with an alien Symbiote to become Venom.

While some fans appreciate how the trailer literally teases viewers by cutting the trailer right after Eddie Brock starts turning into Venom, others like cult director Kevin Smith isn't too fond of the preview.

In his podcast Hollywood Babble-On, Smith opened up about his thoughts on the new Venom trailer, and according to the filmmaker, he really didn't like what he'd seen in the preview.

"I didn't see a Venom trailer. I saw Tom Hardy: The Movie. It's a teaser, but you can't call the movie Venom and not show Venom," the filmmaker said.

Smith's comments were rather surprising. The filmmaker is usually easy to please and is pretty lenient when it comes to his criticism. However, though he thinks that the trailer was more for "Tom Hardy: The Movie," Smith still seemed pretty kind of hopeful forVenom.

"So, there's been questions about how do you tell the story, like you can't tell it the way it was told in the comics unless you do the Secret Wars story, so everyone is wondering how the f*** is he going to become Venom and they showed the symbiote in the trailer trapped in the glass jar. It looked kind of badass," Smith said.

Guess the positive bubble that is Kevin Smith's still pretty much there. We wonder whether Sony'll give fans an even better trailer soon, this time with more Venom and less Eddie Brock.

Venom premieres on October 5, 2018.
