Kevin Feige Wishes Captain Marvel Came Out Before Wonder Woman

Say what you will about the DCEU, but there's no doubt that history was made when Wonder Woman came to theaters. The first good superhero movie with a female lead, it proved audiences don't mind having women as the protagonists in these kinds of movies as long as they're good, finally beating a stigma that had been around Hollywood for years. With all this praise in mind, it's no surprise to hear Kevin Feige say that he wishes 2019's Captain Marvel came out before Wonder Woman.

During a lengthy story with Vanity Fair, both Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel are brought up since the latter is the first Marvel film that will have a female lead. Though Feige claims that the Brie Larson-led film will be very different from Wonder Woman, he said: "I think it's always fun to be first with most things."

To be fair, Marvel is finally releasing superhero movies that have women and people of color in the lead roles. Captain Marvel is the first Marvel film with a female lead, Black Panther will have a 98% black cast, and The Wasp is sharing the title with Ant-Man in their upcoming team-up film called Ant-Man and The Wasp.

Captain Marvel is expected to start production next year and the film is slated for release on March 8, 2019.
