Kevin Feige Hints That Marvel’s The Eternals Could ‘Span Tens Of Thousands Of Years’

Marvel might be pretty tight-lipped when it comes to projects set after Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home, but the studio has been pretty open about its upcoming prequel films like Scarlett Johansson's upcoming Black Widow standalone movie and Chloe Zhao's upcoming cosmic prequel, The Eternals.

Now, as Marvel continues Captain Marvel's promotional campaign, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige talks to Collider about introducing new characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to the Marvel executive, every movie after Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to be unique, introducing characters that a majority have never heard of before much like what Guardians of the Galaxy did for the franchise.

"Eternals are one group, but we like the idea of introducing an ensemble, doing an ensemble movie from the start, as opposed to building up as we did with the first Avengers. More like Guardians, not totally, but in terms of introducing a new group of people," Feige explained.

Teasing Marvel's plans for The Eternals, Feige hints that the film may very well "span tens of thousands of years" saying that it's something that the studio has never really done and that it's something that's very appealing.

For those who aren't familiar with the characters co-created by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee, the Eternals are a genetically altered race of super beings that resulted from an experiment by the Celestials (seen in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as it introduced Ego (Kurt Russell), the living planet). These beings predate humanity, along with the Eternals' enemies, the Deviants. These Deviants were born at the same time as the Eternals, but are a genetically unstable version of humanoid.

With such long and diverse lore behind the comic series, we can't wait to see what Marvel does with The Eternals.

Avengers: Endgame premieres April 26, 2019.
