Kevin Feige Discusses The Complicated Movie Rights of Namor

Now that Disney is on the verge of owning 20th Century Fox, it seems like the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to be perfect. Marvel already has The Avengers and managed to make a deal with Sony to share Spider-Man, so add the X-Men and Fantastic Four, this means pretty much every superhero who matters can star in a new MCU film.

This is mostly true but there is one classic character who Marvel Studios still can't use; Namor the Submariner.

One of the very first Marvel characters ever created, seriously he was made in 1939 when the company was still known as Timely Comics, it's kind of sad how Namor hasn't appeared in a movie yet. Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige has told IGN about the complicated nature regarding the film rights of Namor.

Universal Studios currently has the film rights to Namor but apparently, this situation is more complicated than we know. Granted, Disney is on the verge of buying Fox, so having Namor as the only Marvel character that the studio can't use is an odd situation.

Feige's statement says it all:

"It is. I think there's a way to probably figure it out but it does have — it's not as a clean or clear as the majority of the other characters."

He might not be the most well-known character to mainstream audiences but Namor is a pretty big deal in the comics. Namor is actually the very first anti-hero of the medium, or at the least, the first Marvel one, and has starred in a number of memorable comics. Whether its showdowns with the original Human Torch or being a part of the X-Men, Namor continues to make his mark to comic readers.

Avengers: Infinity War is showing in theaters on April 27.
