Keira Knightley Opens Up About Her Time In Star Wars: The Phantom Menace

Star Wars fans might not remember that much about Keira Knightly in George Lucas' prequels, but the Academy Award-nominated actress actually played a significant role in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. In the very first prequel trilogy installment, Knightley plays the handmaiden that serves as the body double or decoy of Natalie Portman's Padme Amidala. Though the handmaiden didn't make it to Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, Padme's body double certainly had quite a number of significant moments in The Phantom Menace.

Speaking in an interview with Total Film magazine (via Games Radar), Knightley was asked what she thought about her short time in the galaxy far, far away. As it turns out, the British actress was very young at the time – only 12 years old.

" I mean, I was 12. I literally don't remember... I remember the headdress being so heavy, it gave me a headache. I really remember the headache from one of the headdresses," Knightley told the publication, "And I remember being in the background for such a long time that I'd actually fallen asleep. I was just sitting in a chair, and I was in the background, but I couldn't keep my eyes open. I really remember that. But apart from that, I don't remember anything else about it."

No wonder some fans don't really recognize Knightley in The Phantom Menace. The Pride and Prejudice star was very, very young in the Star Wars movie. While we don't really see the handmaiden coming back in any other Star Wars movie or series, we'd definitely like to see Knightley in the galaxy far, far away again. A lot of fans have pointed out that the British actress shares the same features as sequel trilogy star, Daisy Ridley. Perhaps she could play one of Rey's kin in future films of the franchise. Who knows.
