We already know Keanu Reeves is fully capable of playing iconic characters like Neo from The Matrix or Theodore "Ted" Logan from the Bill and Ted comedies. But is it possible that the John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum star will be just as effective as a Marvel Cinematic Universe villain? A new report suggests that Reeves is in negotiations to play the villain in the next MCU flick The Eternals.
The rumor was leaked on 4chan and purports that Reeves has already been cast as Druig in The Eternals (via Cosmic Book News). In comic books, Druig is a power-hungry villain who also happens to possess superhuman strength, cosmic energy manipulation, teleportation, and illusion generation. In addition to that, he is a gifted combatant who has repeatedly fought his own cousin and fellow Celestial Ikaris (rumored to be played by Richard Madden). Needless to say, Reeves sounds like the perfect guy to play Druig in the Angelina Jolie film.
Reeves isn't the only big star who is rumored to join The Eternals. The report adds that Stranger Things actress Millie Bobby Brown and former Sons of Anarchy actor Charlie Hunnam might also appear in the Marvel Studios film.
This isn't the first time that Reeves has been considered for a villainous role in the MCU. He was originally cast as Yon-Rogg in Captain Marvel but had to turn down the role due to scheduling conflicts with John Wick 3. The role eventually went to Jude Law and gave Reeves the freedom to take on a different and perhaps bigger role in the MCU in the future.
We're certainly excited to see Reeves join the MCU but his casting has yet to be confirmed so we recommend taking this with a grain of salt. Interestingly, he has also been rumored to play the major baddie in Hobbs & Shaw.
Reeves will return in John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum, which will hit theaters on May 17.
