Kathleen Kennedy Says There Will Be Baby Porgs In Star Wars: The Last Jedi

It looks like Lucasfilm is more comfortable letting out more info on Star Wars: The Last Jedi now that the sequel trilogy installment is a little over a month away from its release date. Praising director Rian Johnson for his ability to bring fresh ideas into the franchise, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy inadvertently reveals that Star Wars fans are going to see a baby Porg somewhere in The Force Awakens sequel.

Speaking with Andi Gutierrez in an interview on The Star Wars Show, Kennedy compliments Johnson's creativity and "fertile imagination," saying that she doesn't have enough accolades to say about him."

"Rian Johnson… I don't have enough accolades to say about him. He just had an amazingly good time every single day. He's such a huge fan and I think he's done an exception job of taking these new characters and some of the legacy characters and moving us to this next place. And I think there'll be some surprises that people aren't expecting. That's what I think he's brought to this. He just has such an incredibly fertile imagination. There's a brief little moment in The Last Jedi where there's a little Porg and then there's a little baby Porg next to the Porg… it doesn't get better than that."

The Porgs have been the talk of the town ever since one squawky little puffin managed to find its way in the Millennium Falcon with Chewie in the first full trailer for The Last Jedi, and it's terribly exciting to think about how cute a baby porg would be. Good job Rian!

Lucasfilm has loved Johnson ever since he started working on The Last Jedi, and it comes as quite a surprise that the studio didn't give The Looper director the chance to helm Episode IX.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits cinemas December 15, 2017.
