Karl Urban is keeping fans updated and teasing details about Star Trek Beyond.
In a recent interview with IGN, the 43-year-old actor from New Zealand revealed more about what's to come for the crew of the Enterprise, as well as the new relationship that will evolve between his character, Leonard McCoy and Zachary Quinto's Spock due to the events in the film.
In previous promos for the film, it was shown that McCoy and Spock will be teaming up, obviously rather forcedly, due to unforeseen circumstances where they must survive on a remote alien world.
It might be hard for fans to fathom how such a partnership would work, and Urban is shedding light on that question, as well as how there's still humor with the crew of the Enterprise despite their situation. He said:
The dynamic is complex. There is a great deal of humor, but it's contextualized by the framework of jeopardy and danger of the situation that they're in. I believe that their relationship really evolves, and you get to see them both kind of drop their guard and be who they really are around each other — just get a little glimpse of that, which is fantastic and rewarding, especially for long-term Star Trek fans.
It's something that I believe you haven't really seen before. To me, that was really the challenge of the film, to not only honor the 50 years of Star Trek, pay homage to what had come before, but also mine new territory and take these characters into uncharted waters — and that's what we've done with Star Trek Beyond.
Fans will no doubt enjoy seeing these new challenges and personalities from the characters.
Urban and Quinto's characters, and their rivalry, will highlighted, along with the stories of the rest of their crewmates played by Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, Chris Pine, John Cho, and Anton Yelchin.
Meanwhile, Idris Elba is set to play a "predatory" villainKrall in the Justin Lin-directed film.
Star Trek Beyond hits theaters on July 22.
