I'll admit it; I'm a latecomer to the Kaguya-sama: Love is War series. My first experience with it came with reading the first volume of the manga and, at the time, feeling unimpressed with what I read. Then came sampling the anime and once again, I walked away unimpressed. It wasn't until a friend really pushed me into this series that I gave it a real chance and eventually succumbed to the charms of Kaguya, Chika, Miyuki, and Yu as all of them together make up one of the best romantic comedies of the last few years. Thus far, two complete seasons of the anime have been released and even better, a third season and new OVA are on their way as well!

Announced together at the "Kaguya-sama Wants To Tell You On Stage" special event, it was revealed that the three-episode OVA will be bundled with the 22nd volume of the manga when it hits store shelves on May 19th. The contents of the OVA are still being kept quiet, however.

Unfortunately, no one has announced if they will release the OVA episodes outside of Japan yet either. Aniplex of America has the rights to the anime series and Viz Media has the rights to the manga and with OVA license announcements becoming more and more common (see That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime for a recent example), it could appear on a streaming service sooner rather than later. Meanwhile, the third season does not have a premiere date as of yet, but stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.

Originally a manga series created by Aka Akasaka, it began serializing in Miracle Jump magazine in Japan in May 2015 before moving to Weekly Young Jump, a shonen magazine, in March 2016 and has become a smash hit with fans and critics alike who praise it for its unique story premise of two high school tsunderes on the Shuchiin Academy student council who like each other trying to outwit each other and trick the other into admitting their feelings for the other first all while their completely unwitting fellow student council members help or hinder the relationship without even realizing it.

Both the anime and manga have become wildly successful ventures with the manga selling over thirteen million copies as of October 2020, winning the Shogakukan Manga Award in 2020 in the general category, and being ranked 50th in a TV Asahi poll to determine the greatest manga of all time.

This is a series that deserves all the praise it gets and so much more, and to think that I almost never gave it the fair chance it needed to grow on me!
