After a short hiatus, Kaguya-sama: Love Is War returned last week, kicking off what will reportedly be its last arc. This week, things took a turn for the serious. For all the romantic fluff, Kaguya-Sama Love Is War is often marketed as a seinen anime, and this week we are reminded why.
We spent quite some time side-tracked with the love story of Iino and Ishigami, which was all in all fun to read about, but Chapter 240 takes us back to the main couple, and the dangers they face - which, unfortunately, aren't limited to the romantic sort.

Kaguya-Sama: Love is War Overview and Chapter 240Recap
The school dance begins and while there are misadventures here and there, Iino and Ishigami dance and hopefully have a good time together. In what seems like an eerie foreshadowing, Kaguya advises her two friends to get along and be mature, as it will fall to them to protect the school when she and Miyuki are gone.
Kaguya has to be alone for the beginning of the dance as Miyuki has obligations elsewhere, so she has her first dance with Maki Shijo, who tells her the Shijo family would protect her if she wanted to escape the Shinomiyas. Kaguya appreciates the offer but rejects it, thinking it would only offer a short-term solution.
Mikado later offers Kaguya the last dance, confirming his sister's suggestion, but Miyuki arrives. As Kaguya happily dances with him, she wishes that these days could last forever.
The chapter ends with a major mood whiplash, as we find out that the Shinomiya empire has crashed, and Kaguya has gone missing. With such a cliff-hanger, a happy ending for the two main characters feels out of reach for now, and the new chapter can't come soon enough!
