Justice League Director Assures Batman Will Play Nice

If there's one nice touch seen in the Justice League trailer, it would have to be the ongoing gag that Batman just doesn't blend well with his fellow JL-ers.

There's Barry Allen making a joke of just what his superpowers really are. There's Wonder Woman, who's fun synergy with him underlies a level of fun sarcasm from the Amazonian. There's Cyborg, who's basically the more stoic counterpart, and therefore far from foil of the Dark Knight. And of course, Arthur Curry, who's probably the biggest troll to Bruce Wayne's life in Justice League.

This dynamic, according to director Zack Snyder, is actually a big driving point in the movie. Sharing with USA Today, Snyder emphasized that the way they are creating these movies is to bring together a group of very different people, who for the greater good, may be able to set aside those differences. A highlight of this would be Batman.

"He's been a loner for certainly his crime-fighting career, maybe with the exception of Robin. When we meet him in BvS, he's definitely at this low point of isolation. That was always our intention, that Justice League would be this continuation for Batman to evolve into a more complete hero."

While this is certainly a nice approach to completing Batman's story, there's still that nagging thought at the back of my head that this journey would have been a much more cohesive approach if the solo Batman movie came first. It may be an approach that follows exactly the footsteps of Marvel's own Grand Plan, but isn't that how universes are made anyway?

For one thing, we might see that in Wonder Woman's story. We already know that her origin story will focus on her hometown of Themyscira. But we also know that Diana Prince will be dealing with the atrocities of war and men on Earth and change towards her appearance in Justice League may just give us that progression we're looking for.

Still, here's to waiting for Justice League. There's something to be said about the blockbuster-y ambition of bringing the great Darkseid on the first ensemble movie. Hopefully, Justice League will deliver like its trailer sort of did when it comes out on Nov. 16.
