Jurassic World Director Addresses the Possibility of Doing an R-Rated Movie

The Jurassic franchise has thrilled and scared the audience for decades starting with the iconic 1993's Jurassic Park until most recently with Jurassic World Dominion. One element that remains consistent with all the films is its PG-13-rated tone. However, some fans have been wondering whether the franchise will eventually go to an R-rated tone at some point.

In a recent interview with Collider, director Colin Trevorrow was asked about the possibility of doing an R-rated Jurassic World movie. While he is skeptical about the idea actually happening, he did express his interest in the idea of doing it and felt that the audience will welcome the idea as well.

"It's hard to answer that question. I don't know. I do know that if we made A Quiet Place, if we made a hard R really scary version, potentially very contained, I know I'd want to see that movie," Trevorrow said. "If a parent took their kid to that movie and horrified them for life, I know that would be a problem. Look, I don't want to put any cuffs on whoever has a vision for this in the future."

"All I know is that people love dinosaurs, people love movies with dinosaurs in them, and I know people love the world that [Jurassic Park author] Michael Crichton created. The reason why there are dinosaurs and humans in the same place, that sci-fi idea, it's a brilliant idea. From there, I feel like someone else should come to us."

An R-rated Jurassic movie is certainly an interesting idea since it will give them more leeway to explore the brutality of having the dinosaurs co-exist with humans in today's world. It could also potentially bring more scares to the films if they go in that direction.

However, it will all still depend on the producers and the studio whether the franchise will actually go in that direction at some point. For now, all we know is that the Jurassic saga has closed its chapter with its recent film and they have no plans yet to continue the franchise moving forward.
