Jonah Hill Made An Important Career Announcement This Week

But in more recent years, Jonah Hill has seemingly taken a different route when it comes to his acting career and personal life. This week, he wrote an open letter confirming that he will no longer join press tours for his upcoming projects because he wants to focus more on his mental health.

“Through this journey of self-discovery within the film, I have come to the understanding that I have spent nearly 20 years experiencing anxiety attacks, which are exacerbated by media appearances and public-facing events. You won’t see me out there promoting this film, or any of my upcoming films, while I take this important step to protect myself. If I made myself sicker by going out there and promoting it, I wouldn’t be acting true to myself or to the film,” he said (via Deadline).

Hill also said that he hopes other people who are not part of the entertainment industry will also have the opportunity to take a break when they feel that their mental health is affected.

Jonah Hill Has Been Focusing On His Health For Years

According to Us Weekly, this wasn’t the first time that Hill decided to take charge of his health. In 2011, the War Dogs decided to start losing weight. In 2017, he resumed his weight loss journey after he gained 40 pounds for his role in the movie.

Last year, Hill surprised his fans are a topless photo of him at the beach surfaced online. And for the first time in years, the actor admitted that he was unfazed after seeing the magazines publish a photo of him while he was surfing.

“I don’t think I ever took my shirt off in a pool until I was in my mid-30s even in front of family and friends. Probably would have happened sooner if my childhood insecurities weren’t exacerbated by years of public mockery about my body by the press and interviewers. So the idea that the media tries to play me by stalking me while surfing and printing photos like this and it can’t faze me anymore is dope. I’m 37 and finally love and accept myself. This isn’t a ‘good for me’ post. And it’s definitely not a ‘feel bad for me post’. It’s for the kids who don’t take their shirts off at the pool. Have fun. You’re wonderful and awesome and perfect. All my love,” he said.

Jonah Hill Shares Where He Learned The Secret To Being Happy

Last year, Hill spoke with GQ Style and shared that he learned how to be happy from his 92-year-old neighbor.

“I was talking to him one day on the deck—I would have lunch with him once a week on the deck. I said, ‘What’s the deal, man? You’re the happiest guy I’ve ever seen in my life. Why are you so fucking happy?’ And he’s like, ‘I don’t look around at what anybody else is doing. I just live my life, and I don’t look at what other people are doing.’ And he passed away two days ago. And the reason I bring this up is that my hero used to be Mike Nichols, but now my hero is Geoff. Literally, if you said, ‘Who’s your hero?’ I’d say, Geoff, because this guy lived happy, not giving a fuck about the stupid rat race, and then died at 92 at the beach,” he said.
