Jon Hamm is easily one of Hollywood's most accomplished actors and despite his stellar acting resume, it's hard to believe that he still hasn't been tapped for a role in a comic book project. He did voice Iron Man in the animated M.O.D.O.K. series on Hulu but that's the closest he's gotten so far to being cast in the Marvel franchise. Well, that last statement is actually untrue because by Hamm's own admission, he nearly joined the X-Men franchise before Disney's game-changing acquisition of 20th Century Fox.

Turns out, the Mad Men and Baby Driver star almost joined the now-defunct mutant franchise as an iconic villain. In an interview with Yahoo! Entertainment, Hamm, who was at one point the fans' favorite to play Batman revealed that he was supposed to appear in the post-credits scene of New Mutants, setting up Mister Sinister's arrival. Unfortunately, the film's well-documented production mishaps prevented him from filming his cameo.

Breaking his silence for the first time on what could have been a money casting, Hamm reveals: "I never shot anything. I remember having a conversation with people: I'm a huge comic book fan, especially of the X-Men and The New Mutants, so I was excited to be considered. But these conversations happen and then life intervenes."

As unfortunate as it is, that's not to say that Hamm is no longer eligible to become part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially now that Marvel Studios has the official rights to the mutants. Who knows? He could still end up being cast as Mister Sinister in the MCU's X-Men reboot so let's just keep our fingers crossed.

Meanwhile, Marvel Studios' X-Men reboot is currently under development.
