Fans of the MandoVerse were extremely delighted when it was revealed that the script for The Mandalorian Season 4 has already been written. As it stands, we still don't have a definitive answer as to when the hit Star Wars series will end but creator Jon Favreau recently teased that Season 5 could be on its way. Now, it appears that the show's future is shrouded in uncertainty.

In an interview with Film Stories, Favreau seemed to have backpedaled on his previous Season 5 tease. According to the showrunner, it's still up to the audience if they find The Mandalorian's ongoing story engaging enough to warrant a fifth season. He said: "Beyond Season 4? Yeah ... Well, I hope so! I hope so. I really love the dynamic of these two characters that in theory don't age. I think that there's a lot of potential energy in that relationship, especially as the baby is no longer a baby, and starts to grow -- but it happens so slowly that we could really play this out, hopefully for a while."

Favreau continued: "But it all depends on the audience if they like what we're doing. As long as they're digging it, we're digging making it and it's a fun gig that I don't want to walk away from any time soon."

Of course, fans are always down for more Mandalorian action but given how the show is close to approaching the sequel trilogy's territory, it would obviously be quite tricky to expand the show's story. Personally, I don't see The Mandalorian continuing beyond Season 4 but that's not to say that Lucasfilm can't explore Din Djarin's journey post-sequel trilogy assuming he makes it after the events of Episodes VII, VIII, and IX.

The Mandalorian Season 3's second episode hits Disney+ tomorrow, March 8.
