Joker Star Joaquin Phoenix Apologizes for Outtake of Him Having a Meltdown on Set

A lot of people are excited for the release of Joker by the end of the week, and everyone who's seen the film have been raving about how intense Phoenix's performance was. What's interesting is, Jimmy Kimmel Live has come up with some outtakes of Phoenix having a meltdown on set, and you can see Phoenix get clearly embarrassed after it plays.

The clip starts at 8:28:

To break it down, Phoenix has a meltdown in on set and he ends up scolding cinematographer Lawrence "Larry" Sher for "constantly whispering." Phoenix then goes on a little rant which eventually ends with him walking out.

While I can see the show's intent for attempting to get a laugh out of the outtake, it clearly left Phoenix embarrassed. He goes on to say:

"Sometimes movies get intense… You have a lot of people in a small space and you're trying to find something. That was supposed to be private, I'm a little embarrassed by that. I'm sorry you guys had to see that."

Phoenix then thinks that he should ‘probably publicly apologize' to Sher, then he turns it into some joke where he says that Sher is still to blame because he kept whispering during scenes.

If anything, a lot of fans thought that sharing the clip was in bad taste for the show, seeing as it had clearly embarrassed Phoenix who was trying to get a specific kind of performance in the shot. If anything, it seems that everyone is on Phoenix's side, and understands that his breakdown was part of the process.
