Joker: Is Todd Phillips Teasing the Start of Production?

One DC film that has recently been falling under everyone's radar is Todd Phillips' Joker movie which is set to come out October next year. We've been getting some casting news and small updates for the film, but it seems that Phillips has marked the start of production.

He shares this post on Instagram:

If you're wondering, that's just a picture of Phillips himself, but the serious look on his face seems to confirm that the pressure is on for this film to succeed.

Then again, this post could be for something else entirely.

Just in case you didn't know, Joker is going to be the first DC film that will be set apart from the main DCEU timeline, meaning that the events and characters in this film will have nothing to do with the stories of Batman v Superman or Justice League. While we'll see some familiar characters, it's possible that they'll be played by totally different actors—in this case, Joker is now played by Joaquin Phoenix as compared to Suicide Squad's Jared Leto.

I'll admit, I was entirely skeptical of this movie when it was first announced, but I've now warmed up to the idea. Marvel may be ahead in the box office game, but this alternate timeline concept can lead to many other stories; hopefully at some point we can get a Batman: Red Mist or Superman: Red Son.

Joker is set to come out Oct. 4, 2019.
